Boiler replacement in Belfast

Gas or oil, terrace or semi: typical prices up front, then a fixed quote from a qualified Belfast installer.

Gas, oil and the right boiler for a Belfast home

Heating in Northern Ireland works differently from the rest of the UK. Many homes still run on oil, and the gas network is much newer, so whether you can choose gas depends on your street. Belfast has rows of red-brick terraces near the centre, semis further out and a growing number of apartments. We help you weigh up the fuel and the boiler before you get a fixed price.

  • Victorian and Edwardian red-brick terraces: A combi in the kitchen or a back-return cupboard suits most of these homes. If the house is still on oil, switching to gas depends on a gas main reaching your street.

  • Suburban semis: With one bathroom, a gas combi is usually enough. Larger households may want a system boiler with a cylinder so two showers can run at once.

  • Apartments in the city centre and riverside: Building rules may decide the flue type and position, so check with the management company before choosing a replacement.

Boiler replacement in Belfast: questions

How much does a new gas boiler cost in Belfast?

A like-for-like gas combi replacement typically costs £2,200 to £3,400 fitted including VAT. Moving from a system with a hot water cylinder to a combi is more, often £3,000 to £4,200. Oil boilers and fuel switches are priced on survey.

Can I switch from oil to gas in Belfast?

Only if there is a gas main in your street and a connection can be made to your home. The gas network operator can confirm this. If gas is available, your installer will price the new boiler, the gas pipework and removing the old oil tank.

Who can fit an oil boiler?

Gas boilers must be fitted by a Gas Safe registered engineer. Oil boilers need an engineer qualified for oil systems, which is a separate certification. We will put you in touch with the right type of installer for your fuel.

Is there a grant for a new boiler in Northern Ireland?

We cannot promise one. Support schemes in Northern Ireland change, so check NI Energy Advice for anything currently available before you commit. Any quote you get through City Boiler assumes the full price, with no grant taken off.
