Heat pump installation in Belfast
A clear view on whether your Belfast home suits a heat pump, then a fixed price from an MCS-certified installer.
Is a heat pump worth it in Belfast?
For homes on oil, a heat pump can be a real alternative to a new oil boiler, especially in a well-insulated semi with space outside. The Boiler Upgrade Scheme does not cover Northern Ireland, so the sums have to work without that grant. Solid-wall terraces with small yards are the hardest case. Oil-heated semis with room outside usually make the strongest case.

Victorian and Edwardian red-brick terraces: Workable in some cases, but the unit has to fit in a small yard and solid brick walls let heat escape. Expect to need insulation and some larger radiators.
Suburban semis: Often a reasonable fit once cavity walls and the loft are insulated, with space at the side or rear for the outdoor unit.
Apartments in the city centre and riverside: Uncommon in apartment blocks, as you need consent and a spot outside for the unit. Some newer buildings use electric heating instead.

Heat pump installation in Belfast: questions
What does a heat pump cost in Belfast?
A typical air source heat pump costs £11,000 to £14,500 installed. That is the figure to plan around, as no national grant is taken off in Northern Ireland. Radiator upgrades, if your home needs them, are listed separately in a fixed quote.
Can I get the Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant in Northern Ireland?
No. The Boiler Upgrade Scheme covers England and Wales only. Check NI Energy Advice for any support that might apply to your home at the time you buy, but do not count on a grant when planning your budget.
Should I replace my oil boiler with a heat pump?
It depends on the house. In a well-insulated home with room for the outdoor unit and a cylinder, a heat pump can make sense. In a draughty solid-wall house, a new oil or gas boiler may be the better call for now, and we will say so.
Does the installer need to be certified?
We only connect you with MCS-certified heat pump installers. MCS sets standards for design and installation, including sizing the system to your home's heat loss, so you are not left with a unit that struggles in winter.
